A Message for Home-Schooled Students
Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School wants to welcome home-schooled
students to take part in a new DHPH program: the School of Individualized
Learning. This program enables students to create an academic
program that is designed specifically for each student. The benefits
of this program are that a student can select courses and activities
from the full DHPH program to create a program that meets their
needs.
Our program is designed to ensure students graduate ready for
a post-secondary career to be pursued at a four-year, two-year,
vocational, or competitive work environment. We do this through
an integrated approach incorporating college / career counseling,
internships, extracurricular activities, and tutoring.
A student in our program will be able to:
-
Take 3 – 5 courses at Pueblo Community College at no charge,
-
or take 3-5 courses at CSU Pueblo,
-
complete high school requirements by attending on-campus
classes or taking independent studies courses – a full high
school curriculum is offered for both options;
-
participate in high school athletic programs and clubs,
-
set up a college-going program with their counselor,
-
participate in a full-year college readiness program,
-
take part in field trips which include trips to state colleges,
-
and join the DHPH mariachi program.
All of our courses at DHPH, both on-campus and independent studies,
share these common traits:
-
Clear, measurable outcomes and objectives
-
Stated curriculum, including standards for student work
-
Student and teacher expectation that students are preparing
for a successful post-high school future
-
Preparation for success at the highest levels of standardized
testing
-
Regular time spent with students discussing and writing about
what they have learned, how it relates to their other subject
areas, and how it relates to their future plans
We would like to have a parent information night to review our
program – we can do this at a convenient location for parents.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
